Relighting a Campus: A Generation of Change in Five Years
About the Presentation
Todd Owen will present how Liberty University is radically changing its culture and image through energy efficient lighting. He will illustrate how poor, haphazard product application can be changed from being two decades behind the times to the front of the race in only a few years. Todd will cover how the University’s transition from fluorescent and HID products to LED is paying dividends to the University, as well as how those changes were justified. He will discuss how occupancy sensing, time clocks, daylighting and fully electronic lighting controls offer promises and challenges in different ways. Todd will touch on the rationale behind their color temperature selections and how important centralized automation is for the future of the University.
For consultants, Todd will share his economic analysis techniques to justify the products you specify and get client buy-in throughout the design process, especially as the industry transitions to LED products. For vendors, he will share how today’s lighting revolution is exciting for its flexibility and creativity, but more challenging for its lack of industry standardization. Finally, he will share how the public bid process can still be managed to fairly compete radically different products and how consultants should be prepared and proactive in order to have a successful outcome.
